American Muslims
Ever since 9/11 I've been very troubled by the dearth of condemnation of terrorist by American Muslims. I felt that If they were not to be considered the targets of suspicion and prejudice, they should be in the forefront of combating radical Islam, not just whining about being the targets of a highly exaggerated — and sometimes faked — wave of "hate" crimes and racism.
Today's Christian Science Monitor features an article by Shadi Hamid that I find enlightening and somewhat reassuring. He has a plausible answer to the question of why American Muslims are now ready to join the battle against Islamic fascists, and why until now they were not very willing to do so.
