"The most influential person in Democratic politics"?
The estimable Dean Barnett, writing on Hughhewitt.com, argues that Markos Moulitsas, a.k.a. Kos (as in Daily Kos), deserves serious consideration for the title.
He contends that Kos chooses his fights carefully, focusing on those he thinks he has a chance of winning. Speaking of the latest Kos triumph - getting Democrats to withdraw from the planned debate in Nevada to be broadcast by Fox News Channel - he writes:
It was a power play. It was one of Markos' well-chosen battles that allowed him to demonstrate his power. Yes, the entire Democratic presidential field looks pathetic for bowing to the irrational wish of a blogger. But it doesn't make the blogger look ridiculous. It makes him look like a king-maker.
What it argues, I think, is that Democrats are easily intimidated. We already know this based on their response to 3000 combat deaths in Iraq, but it helps to have confirmation. Wussies, in other words.
