Where the heroes are

Check out this essay, "Today I Met The Finest," from Free Republic today.  A Vietnam vet goes to his first veterans' event and discovers the ordinary heroes we rub elbows with every day, without knowing who they really are and what they did.

Some of these guys still walking around, maybe the greeter who smiles at you at WalMart, really deserve to be escorted everywhere they go by a bagpiper, a drummer, a color guard, and maybe some pretty girls tossing rose petals.
