Empty coffers, rising 'threats'
It is a common phenomenon that whenever "public interest groups" find their coffers or influence diminishing they find threats in their area of concern which are rising and must be monitored and stemmed. Press releases on this confected threat are churned out and with minor emendations appear as news stories, adding credence to the groups' claims. Steve Gilbert casts his gimlet eye on the Southern Poverty Law Center and finds they did it again with the completely unfounded claim that the dreaded white supremacists are on the rise again. |
