DHS Secretary Napolitano has got to go
Aren't you glad we've got such a smart government?
Except for DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. Writing in Commentary, J.G. Thayer list some really shocking stupidities that have recently made it apparent that Ms. Napolitano doesn't know her arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to most issues directly relating to her office:
First up, her department issued a report on the dangers of right-wing extremism that mainly served to smear and anger many veterans. Just as the furor of that began to die out, the FBI decided to add, for the first time, a domestic terrorist to its 10 Most Wanted terrorists list - and it's an [1] animal rights extremist. Then Ms. Napolitano decided that it was incumbent upon her to discuss border security. This should have been her forte; after all, she had been the governor of Arizona, and that state is having huge problems with Mexican drug gangs. If anyone ought to know about the problems with our borders, it should be her.Whoops.She demostrated that she knows almost nothing about the history of terrorism in the United States, saying (falsely) that the 9/11 hijackers [2] entered the U.S. through Canada. Canada is understandably irritated at this slur, and I'm sure that some Canadians are reconsidering that whole "longest unfortified border in the world" thing.
She is the laughing stock of Canada and has angered veterans groups around the country with her smear about them being recuited for "right wing extremists." And her shocking lack of knowledge about the issues directly relating to her department and 9/11 should worry us that those who forget history (or are ignorant of it) are doomed to repeat it.
Ed lasky adds that she "doesn't know the law either." Jenna McNeill, writing at the Heritage blog The Foundry, quotes the secretary about immigration law:
On Sunday, April 19, 2009, Secretary Napolitano went on CNN's "State of the Union" and proclaimed that crossing the border illegally is not a crime. This statement left a lot of folks scratching their heads given that U.S. law-the law Napolitano is sworn to uphold-says quite the opposite. Section 8, Title 1325 of the U.S. code clearly states that those who enter the U.S. illegally are committing a crime.
Some GOP congressman are already calling on her to resign. The fact that she is a woman (with widespread speculation that she is also a lesbian) means that she is probably "untouchable."
After all, if Clinton wouldn't fire Janet Reno after the massacres at Ruby Ridge and Waco, Obama will never fire Napolitano for simply being dumb.
