Charlie Crist running for Senate in Florida
Politico brings us this good news for the GOP. Charlie Crist has high approval rating from members of all groups. He is a heavy favorite to hold seat of Republican Mel Martinez. The GOP also has a good candidate in Rob Portman (former Congressman and Bush's budget director) in Ohio to defend Voinovich's seat. Portman is not known statewide as Crist is in Florida, but is a proven strong performer in elections.
Other news is not as good for GOP. Tom Ridge will not run in Pennsylvania. He would have had an excellent shot to beat Arlen Sepcter. And Mark Kirk may not run in Illinois. Kirk is the only Republican who might have a shot in this very blue state.
