CAIR on profiling

So what does the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which bills itself as an American Islamic civil rights group but which many claim is anything but, have to say about the failed terrorist attempt over the skies of Detroit (allegedly of course) by a Nigerian Muslim?

Well, I went to their website, www.cair.com, but it has mysteriously disappeared; trying to access produced "currently not available." Hmmmmmm. Trying Google's cache was similar. Hmmmmm again.

However, before disappearing into the ether,
CAIR's representative, Ibrahim Hooper, did manage to issue a statement which AP published. Did Hooper apologize, stating Islam is a religion of peace and that the alleged suspect violated Islam's basic precepts?

Uh, no. Hooper warned

"While everyone supports robust airline security measures, racial and religious profiling are in fact counterproductive and can lead to a climate of insecurity and fear."

Mr. Hooper. Not profiling can lead to death. Profiling should be one of many "robust airline security measures," not the only one. If those profiled feel insecure and fearful, so be it; blame their co religionists who necessitate these actions, not those who are charged with protecting innocents. And if by counterproductive you mean the profilees will take drastic action, well, that would be very counterproductive.
