For those who know history, it is clear that the "liberals" in this country have in many respects become like the fascists and communists of the twentieth century. They propagate talismanic slogans like "freedom of choice" but are deeply contemptuous of individual liberty. They also claim to stand for the welfare of the American people, but have deliberately bankrupted the American middle-class in order to secure their hold on power through racial, ethnic and gender politics.

For those of us who know what the word "liberal" used to mean, the question today is how do these so-called liberals justify their behavior in a Constitutional Republic like the United States of America? Well, if you believe what they say, you must conclude that they are possessed of a totalitarian mindset. Listen, for example, to liberal Congressman Fortney "Pete" Stark as he answers some of his constituents' concerns at a recent town hall meeting. Stop the video at 3 minutes and 33 seconds, where he says: "The Federal government can do most anything in this country," and ponder the implications of that statement.

How in the world does Mr. Stark justify such thinking? Is it that he has never read the Constitution? Or is it just that he doesn't care about the Constitution? Clearly, he doesn't understand the Constitution, since the quintessential genius of that document is its meticulously crafted limitations on the power of the Federal government. Perhaps the truth is that Mr. Stark, like a great many other so-called liberals today, considers the Constitution to be a stumbling block on the road to an authoritarian government whose powers are so plenary that they are indistinguishable from the totalitarian governments of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. If so, he is possessed of a totalitarian mindset that is alien to America and inimical to freedom.
