Brit PM Attacks Multiculturalism

The new leader of the UK has the guts to say what the leader of the USA not only won't say, but worse, might even disagree with. British Prime Minister David Cameron went on the offensive during a speech in Munich over the weekend. The kind of honest clarity that, if he were an American, might get him elected in a rout for President in 2012.

With the turmoil in northern Africa and the Middle East as a backdrop, Cameron stated clearly a problem we all know exists but don't have leaders willing to openly confront. Until now.  The left has openly joined the extreme in a socialist-anarchist-jihadist Axis of Evil. And the time is now that Europe must admit and state loudly what is taking place on its continent.

Among the highlights.
"We won't defeat terrorism simply by the actions we take outside our borders. Europe needs to wake up to what is happening in our own countries," Cameron told the conference.

Cameron said a culture of tolerance had allowed both Islamic extremists, and far-right extremists, to build support for their causes. " So when a white person holds objectionable views - racism, for example - we rightly condemn them.

‘But when equally unacceptable views or practices have come from someone who isn't white, we've been too cautious, frankly even fearful, to stand up to them" he said.

I would yell "Bravo" but it's almost saddening to think that we have to cheer a statement of a simple truth. Setting aside that extremism (Islamic, right, left, anarchists, etc) are really all cut from the same cloth and are separated only by a final fight over who gets to control people in what way, Cameron put his Euro socialists on notice. Finally someone has gone Maggie Thatcher on the willowing wallflowers that would allow the great cultures of that continent to be threatened with extinction.

Cameron asked the rhetoric questions that the far left refuses to address.
"Let's properly judge these organisations: Do they believe in universal human rights - including for women and people of other faiths? Do they believe in equality of all before the law? Do they believe in democracy and the right of people to elect their own government? Do they encourage integration or separatism?

"These are the sorts of questions we need to ask. Fail these tests and the presumption should be not to engage with organisations," he added.

The left assigns moral equivalence to all cultures in a common cause attempt to seek socialist control of populations regardless of the nature of any totalitarian rule. The left's socialist goals require all sorts of catalysts, even those that are at odds with the left's stated platform of inclusion. In reality the only inclusion the left desires is that all people be controlled by a central government.

Cameron's statements created the immediate and expected outcry from supposed "aggrieved parties."  That alone proved his point -- that the default position in Europe (and the United States) is that traditional standards cannot be considered to be under assault.  That is the unfortunate template of a society on the decline. Worse for the left and its new found extremist proxies is that Cameron used the word "liberal" correctly.

He continued:
A genuinely liberal country "believes in certain values and actively promotes them", Mr. Cameron said. "Freedom of speech. Freedom of worship. Democracy. The rule of law. Equal rights, regardless of race, sex or sexuality". "It says to its citizens: This is what defines us as a society. To belong here is to believe these things." He said under the "doctrine of state multiculturalism", different cultures have been encouraged to live separate lives.

Here is where I will slightly depart from Cameron. I will argue that "under the "doctrine of state multiculturalism," different cultures have been encouraged to live separate lives" is not getting to the bottom line truth. On its surface that statement is accurate. But the real goal is not to use multiculturalism to encourage living separate lives, but in fact to encourage the death of traditional cultures and to ensure that destruction by attacking and demonizing the pillars of European and American society. Multiculturism seems nothing short of the re-working of traditions in an all out assault to eliminate them.

Modern Britain has always been its own worst enemy, ignoring extremism at great peril and cost. Once again it has a chance to salvage its culture, tradition and country. Cameron will have to keep that classic stiff upper lip. He will be assailed for daring to stand up for a peoples whose way of life is directly threatened, so much so that the unspoken (and not funny) little joke is that the UK's capital city has be renamed "Londonistan".

Mr. Prime Minister there are many of us on this side of the pond that still hold strong to the special relationship between our countries. We stand ready to defend our tradition and honor. If only an American President would follow the Brits lead and call the new Axis of Evil for what it truly is.  A dire and immediate threat.
