Democrats very late to board the Weiner resignation bandwagon

A plurality of his constituents, the entire Republican party, and every decent soul who values honesty and temperance in their lawmakers called on Anthony Weiner to resign before even one Democrat saw fit to do so.

It was only after the "full exposure" Weiner picture emerged on the internet did the Democrats finally - finally - rouse themselves and call for their colleague's resignation.

Politico:

But pressure is steadily building from within Democratic ranks for him to call it quits and end the saga of the first Twitter-made political sex scandal.

Two former Democratic National Committee chairmen, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and former Virginia governor and current Senate candidate Tim Kaine, have called on Weiner to tender his resignation, as has Rep. Allyson Schwartz, the Pennsylvania Democrat who runs the recruitment and candidate-services operations for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Schwartz was the first national Democrat to call for Weiner to step down - on Wednesday mid afternoon. This was about 48 hours after the congressman had gone before the press weeping and telling everyone he was a bald faced liar and a creepy internet exhibitionist to boot.

Evidently, lying and cybersex with women young enough to be his daughter is behavior that is perfectly alright for a Democratic congressman to engage in. Despite Weiner using his wife as a campaign prop, thus intimating loyalty and fidelity to voters, the congressman proved himself a hypocrite by stepping out on his wife while keeping up a false front for political purposes.

None of this mattered to Democrats who only turned on the congressman when the latest x-rated photo hit the internet. Now he is a political embarassment instead of just a loutish liar.

I hope the American people take note of the Democrat's reluctance to stand up for decency and give Weiner the ax.
