Obama's birthday present from the financial markets

After scorching  billionaires, millionaires and well into six digit thousandaires "who don't pay their fair share" because of tax write offs on their private jets,  President Barack Obama (D) flew into his hometown on his business' very own private jet, Air Force One, on Wednesday night, the eve of his 50th birthday, to celebrate--and to raise money for his forthcoming campaign--with the people he had just roundly criticized.

Tickets to the party--er fundraiser--started at $50 for the privilege of being jammed into a non union venue to hear Jennifer Hudson belt out Happy Birthday and the birthday boy himself blaming his predecessor for the horrible situation he inherited and how he transformed it to something better.

"The thing that we all have to remember is that as much good as we've done, precisely because the challenges were so daunting, precisely because we were inheriting so many challenges, that we're not even halfway there yet," he said.

"When I said, 'change we can believe in,' I didn't say, 'change we can believe in tomorrow.' Not, 'change we can believe in next week.'  We knew this was going to take time, because we've got this big, messy, tough democracy," he said. "And that's the great thing about America is, is that there are all these contentious ideas that are out there and we've got to make our case."

Some of the previously mentioned billionaires, millionaires and well into six digit thousandaires, many with access to private jets, paid well over their fair share--$35,800--for the privilege of dining privately with the celebrant; $10,000 extra for a picture with him.

And on the very next day, coincidentally on his actual birthday, the financial markets, acknowledging the president's half century mark, tanked, dropping over 4 o/o.

The terrorist Tea Party strikes again!  Or former President George W. Bush.  Maybe it was Europe's fault?

"Markets go up and down," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said. "We obviously are monitoring the situation in Europe closely. And there's no question that this economy has faced headwinds this year, a variety of them, including the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the increase in oil prices - energy prices that resulted from the unrest in the Arab world, and the situation in Europe also."

But when the situation improves,  if next week one person gets a job or in 20 years if unemployment is at 5 o/o, it is to Obama's credit.

"So our focus has to be on the things that we can control, which is to take the necessary measures, working with Congress, to ensure that our economy grows, that we create jobs," he said.

And if they don't succeed, they will continue blame the partisanship of the Tea Party and/or "the situation they inherited."  But never, ever themselves and their  unworkable spending spree.
