Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies from the White House

Speaking from the White House last Friday, President Obama commemorated the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Along with some boiler plate remarks extending "warmest [sic] wishes" to the 1.5 million Muslims around the world he characterized Ramadan as a time to "cherish family, friends and neighbors, and to help those in need.." He then went on to say that Islam, like all great faiths, has a "commitment to justice, equality and compassion."

Here is a statement from the Christian Telegraph regarding Muslims cherishing friends and neighbors during Ramadan:

This is not just a theory or possibility. Moeller says during Ramadan, "Christians in Muslim-dominated countries experience a severe increase in persecution worldwide."

Year after year, Christians have faced increased hardship during this Muslim holy month. As Muslims focus on serving God, some hone in on the Quran's commands to eliminate Christians.

A commitment to justice, equality and compassion? Can he believe this? Equality for women? Compassion for non-Muslims?

August 2011

Egypt: Soon after breaking their Ramadan fast, thousands of Muslims rampaged a predominantly Christian village, firing automatic weapons, looting and throwing Molotov Cocktails at several homes; they beat a priest, plundering and torching his home; another Copt was murdered in his home, which was also ransacked. Separately, a Copt was savagely attacked by seven Muslims in front of a police station; he lost one eye and required 20 stitches in his head. And girls leaving church were sexually harassed by Muslim who hurled stones at the church shattering five windows.

And that is just Egypt. It goes on in Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria … .

And here is the May 2012 report from Raymond Ibrahim

Indonesia saw several church-related attacks:

A mob of 600 Muslims threw bags of urine, stones, and rotten eggs at the congregation of a Protestant church at the start of Ascension Day service, while shouting profanity and threatening to kill the pastor. No arrests were made.

Zanzibar: Hundreds of Muslims set two churches on fire and clashed with police during protests against the arrest of senior members of an Islamist movement known as the Association for Islamic Mobilization and Propagation. Afterwards, the group issued a statement denying any involvement of wrong doing.

And that is just for starters. And just for May. But like all great religions, Islam stands for "justice, equality and compassion."

That's all, folks."
