Every time there is a tragedy, a politician stands on his desk and bloviates.  He does not necessarily offer reasonable solutions to the problems.  He offers speeches and rhetoric meant to cover himself in a veil of empathy and a patina of concern.

Gov. Chris Christie is at it again.  He shakes his girth like a hula hoop and barks or barfs that the U.S. House is holding back $60.4 billion in aid for Hurricane Sandy relief.  All the victims and the mindless empathetic agree with him.   And who wouldn't?  Helping them is the Christian thing to do.

But Christie doesn't even justify the $60.4 billion.  Maybe $30 billion would do the trick?  Overpaying is as harmful as overpaying.  Obama is killing the country by false kindness.  He is bankrupting us without looking at the consequences of his profligacy.

Christie even took a page out of Obama's clichéd book -- this is not about blue states and red states.  Hey, it worked for Obama during the first election.  Do you have to repeat it again, Chris?  How boring.  How dull.  How repetitive.

Perhaps this is not about getting help to the people in need, but rather about using the occasion to dole out strips of pork.  Maybe it should be about helping the citizens without robbing from the other people?  Maybe it should be about fiscal responsibility without using resources to buy votes? 

Christie blames Boehner for the suffering of the Hurricane Sandy victims.  He'd be better off blaming the government tradition of failure to handle money properly. 

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said we should no longer give money to the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee.  Oh, that's right -- give it to Obama, the biggest nouveau riche spender in the history of the country.

Don't panic, men.  Something's wrong.  But this is no time to side with the Democratic wild spenders.  When the money runs out, the victims of Hurricane Sandy won't even have a wisp of a chance of rebuilding.  It's time we put our financial house in order so that we can help people over the long term.  It's time Chris Christie stopped finger-pointing and put down his hula hoop.

It's time Democrats and Republicans stopped expecting to stop a tidal wave by putting their fingers in a dike.  Acts of nature and shootings by lunatics cannot be stopped by throwing money at the wounds.  We need intelligent approaches to disasters, not disastrous bragging or fake solutions to tragedies.
