The Nonsense Begins: Security delays at airports blamed on sequester

Is DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano really trying to tell us that 3 days into the sequester the TSA has already been effected to the point that there are delays getting through security at airports?

Yep:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International and O'Hare International in Chicago, are already experiencing delays as a result of automatic federal spending cuts.

Both of those big-city airports routinely suffer delays.

Napolitano said Monday that delays will become worse. The Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection agencies, which are part of the Homeland Security Department, are sending furlough notices and have cut overtime for employees.

Napolitano said she expects a cascading effect during the week, with wait times expected to double in worst cases.

Liar.

There are dozens of reasons why there might be delays at those airports, not least of which is they are very very busy places and at peak times, the lines are going to be a little longer. To blame the sequester is a lie which makes Napolitano a liar. And her boss too.

Republicans have to hit back hard when it comes to these bogus claims. They have to point out that the administration is deliberately inflicting pain on them for political purposes. Or, as in the case of the phantom delays at airports, engaging in outright lies.
