Doctors in Quebec being warned about a medical test

Victoria Taylor of the New York Daily News tells us that doctors in Quebec are being warned not to conduct virginity tests.

College des Medecins has told its physicians they are no longer allowed to issue 'virginity certificates' after learning about cases of doctors performing gynecological exams for the sole purpose of determining if a woman has had intercourse.

Golly. Who could possibly be asking for such tests?

I'm at a loss. Do you have any idea?

Victoria Taylor and her editors at the NY Daily News, seem to be similarly baffled.

Why oh why would doctors be asked to conduct virginity tests? Who would be asking for such a thing?

Seems very much a many-centuries-ago kind of thing. Hmmm, maybe that's a clue.
