Soros and the Bundy Ranch
A Soros-funded nonprofit New Yorker magazine called “one of the most important radical environmental groups in the country” has issued a statement denouncing the Bureau of Land Management‘s (BLM) decision to back away from a showdown with Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and hundreds of supporters.
A scientist for The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) blasted BLM saying the federal agency “has a sacred duty to manage our public lands in the public interest…instead it is allowing a freeloading rancher and armed thugs to seize hundreds of thousands of acres of the people’s land as their own fiefdom.”
CBD is funded by Earthjustice which is funded by George Soros. Earthjustice describes itself as a nonprofit “law firm for the environment that works through the courts to safeguard public lands, national forests, parks and wilderness areas… and to preserve endangered species and wildlife habitat.”
The Soros organization issued an April 5 news release on its website when feds first began rounding up Bundy’s cows, stating that his cattle have “been illegally grazing in Gold Butte Area for more than two decades.”
Their victory dance turned out to be a bit premature:
The Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and other federal agencies today began the long-delayed and long-awaited roundup and impoundment of cattle that have illegally grazed the Gold Butte area south of Mesquite, unmanaged and free of charge, for more than two decades. Rancher Cliven Bundy has been locked in a dispute with the BLM since 1993.
…We’re heartened and thankful that the agencies are finally living up to their stewardship duty. The Gold Butte area has been officially designated as critical habitat for threatened tortoises — meaning the area is essential to their long-term survival as a species.”
“The point cannot be lost that Mr. Bundy is an affront and potential danger to the safety of the public servants” …said Alan O’Neill, former superintendent of the Lake Mead National For too …”Mr. Bundy’s bullying and threats have stopped the appropriate action in seizing his herd and levying fines. “
“Mr. Bundy's defiance of the law and decades-long free grazing on public lands is a poke in the eye of every rancher who rightfully pays for their use of the public lands, and a further thumb of the nose to those responsible, progressive ranchers who graze sustainably, allowing for threatened species to survive on their allotments,” said Karen Boeger, a former BLM advisory committee member.
Boeger calls herself a “Nevadan by choice and conservation activist” and has “been a participant in numerous stakeholder groups working with BLM.” Is one of those groups CBD? The Soros entity has been described as “America’s most effective environmental law firm, consistently outwitting the best private, corporate, and government attorneys in the world to protect millions of acres of forest and wilderness.”
Despite the superlatives, Kieran Suckling, CBD’S executive director likes to give out Rubber Dodo awards to “environmental villains.” 2013’s winner? The Koch brothers.
And when asked about the philosophy guiding his work, this is what Suckling told the interviewer from Holy Cross College, his alma mater:
...It’s an outlook that is deeply critical, even skeptical, of systems, models and sedimented language, but is ultimately rooted in worldly faith, rather than skepticism itself.
Letting beings be — trusting them to come forth — it seems to me, is the motivating sensibility of radically progressive activism. It’s a question of faith — in the world, in polar bears, in sea turtles, in pygmy owls, in the authority of poetry and painting, in the rightness of ice that has cooled our planet for 800,000 years and is now coming apart.
The Bundy family is not only taking a stand against an out-of-control federal government, but zealots like Suckling funded by the likes of George Soros. This is just one more reason to throw all of our support behind the Nevada rancher.
