David Remnick, editor of the New Yorker and author of The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama, is a genuine heavyweight in the literary/intellectual world dominated by leftists (and a foe of Jack Cashill). It is fair to consider him highly sympathetic to Obama, so his statement this morning on MSNBC is all the more revealing. Daniel Halper of The Weekly Standard noticed when he said:

"The profile [of President Obama] that I published in the New Yorker was somebody that eerily, eerily seemed to be claiming himself--it was a sense of not giving up, but of deep frustration--that was the profile that I published in the New Yorker. Somebody frustrated and disappointed," said Remnick, who has proven to be deeply sympathetic to this president.

"And that's what's frustrating to me sometimes about Obama is that the world seems to disappoint him," he continued to laughter from others on the TV set. "Republicans disappoint him, Bashar al-Assad disappoints him, Putin as well. And the fighting spirit sometimes is lacking in the performative aspects of the presidency."

But that hasn't kept Remnick from souring on Obama. "Do I think that at the end of eight years this will go down as a terrible presidency? I don't. You do. I don't. I think an enormous amount has been achieved."

David Remnick unintentionally gives away the scary reality: Obama lives in a dream world, one in which Vladimir Putin is charmed by his Reset Button and reciprocates the unilateral disarmament policies on offer, where Assad of Syria is intimidated by Obama articulating a red line, and in which global warming is a serious threat because mathematical models that have failed to accurately predict temperatures for the last 17 years say so.

The resident lives in fantasyland, and we are in deep peril.
