Booker T. Washington vs NAACP

According to a video of a black female interviewed on camera at 2014 annual NAACP convention, black conservatives were not welcome to attend. The reason for her intolerance, she claims that conservatives do not espouse the same values as the NAACP. She did not articulate what those values are; nonetheless, she was certain that black conservatives did not share them. What exactly are the values that the NAACP espouses? How exactly does the NAACP plan to bring about advancement for black Americans? The NAACP’s website states the following mission and vision statement and objectives:

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.

Objectives

The following statement of objectives is found on the first page of the NAACP Constitution - the principal objectives of the Association shall be:

•To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens

•To achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States

•To remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes

•To seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights

•To inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination

•To educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful action to secure the exercise thereof and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's Articles of Incorporation and this Constitution.

Booker T. Washington, an educator, reformer, and founder of Tuskegee University, preached a philosophy of self-reliance by elevating oneself through education, hard work and entrepreneurship as an agenda for black America’s advancement. According to former congressional representative Allen West, those three values completely align with conservative principles. Booker T. Washington’s prescription for advancement was specific, realistic, and measurable and results driven and useful for any individual (regardless of race). However, the NAACP mission statement is full vague social justice terminology with no specifics and is unmeasurable and unattainable with no sufficient directions to how to achieve it other than through government intervention or force. In fact, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 already covers their entire mission and vision statements.

So, why was the woman on the video so angry and confrontational? From her comments, the thrust of her anger is aimed at the Tea Party and the Koch brothers. Why is she not angry at President Obama and the Democrat Party? The Tea  Party and the Koch brothers are not the cause of the high unemployment numbers in the black community nor are they responsible for the influx of illegals that will compete with blacks for jobs. In fact, when was the last time President Obama (the first black president) has taken time out of his busy schedule to attended the NAACP’s annual convention? The relationship between black Americans, President Obama and the Democrat Party is comparable to a wife that refuses to acknowledge that her husband has moved on to someone else. How humiliating it must be to be publically cast aside for others (illegals). He flaunts the illegals in their faces and vows publically to take care of them (while ignoring the needs of blacks). Rather than reclaiming their dignity by renouncing this president and his destructive policies, they lash out at others (Tea party, Koch brothers and black conservatives).

It is so obvious that a blind person can see it that neither the president nor the Democrat Party is interested in the advancement of  “colored” people. The only thing both  President Obama and his party are interested in advancing is the government’s control over the lives of the citizens. If Booker T. Washington’s agenda for black Americans had not been circumvented by radical progressives W.E.B. Du Bois and the NAACP, we would be experiencing a different America today.
