Gaza and the End Game

Gaza has 1.8 million residents and a population growth rate of 2.9%.  The population doubling time is 25 years and at that rate Gaza’s population will be 3.6 million in 2039.  Most of Gaza’s GDP is from foreign aid and most of that is distributed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).  On the UNRWA website there is an advertisement for donations that says feeding a family in Gaza costs $1,080 per month.  Assuming six people per family, that works out at about $6 per person per day.  That sounds in the ballpark given that European and US aid to Gaza is supposed to be $700 million per annum with $250 million-odd of that from the US.  The newly wealthy Islamic state of Qatar is also providing funds.

Some of those funds are diverted to bringing in thousands of missiles which are fired into Israel.  Part of the funds for the Iron Dome system that shoots down the Gazan missiles is provided by the US.  This situation sounds like it might have been devised by Joseph Heller – in Catch 22 there was a bomber squadron that was paid by the Germans to bomb their own airbase.  Israel goes to a lot of trouble to avoid civilian casualties in Gaza, for example their knock-on-the-roof bombing technique.  But what is the fate of all the Gazan civilians they are trying not to kill?

UNRWA has been reporting donor fatigue for Gaza.  The current Hamas attack on Israel and the Israeli counter attack have not elicited much sympathy for Gaza.  The Israelis are feeling confident.  There is no conventional army that could attack them for hundreds of kilometres in any direction.  Even an Iraqi division joined in the Yom Kippur war against Israel back in 1973.  Now the Iraqi Army can’t fight off people in pickup trucks.  Right at the moment the only military force on the planet that could mount a conventional attack on Israel is that of the US.

UNWRA’s donors may go beyond fatigue to not being able to pay at all.  And that might be due to "global warming."  In the US, the EPA is using the excuse of "global warming" to attack the US economy.  When the economy shrinks in response, something will have to give and the indulgences will be cast aside one after the other.  The Europeans have also blighted their economy to "save the environment" to the extent that the lights might go out literally.  Nobody else on the planet would have much interest in keeping the Gazans fed.

The Gazan attacks on Israel are happening at the right time with the right frequency, hardening Israeli hearts against them for the day when UNWRA donor fatigue is complete and the Gazans start starving.  Let them starve.
