The vast majority of us “Trumpkins,” or whatever we’ve been designated by our media betters, fully understand that Donald Trump is not the second coming of Ronald Reagan.  Though what many fail to grasp is that given current circumstances, he’s the best many of us hope to do.  We’re prepared to put “real conservatism” on the back burner for now.  We’re desperate for a leader who will unabashedly put Americans first!  Who is willing to talk about closing the border and, God forbid, enforcing the laws that have been on the books for decades.  But above all, that most politically incorrect sin of all sins, to “make America great again.” 

We instinctively feel that the leaders of today’s Democratic Party, from Barack Obama on down, and many in the Republican establishment as well, put a far higher priority on pandering to special interests, be they illegal immigrants, teachers unions, or well-heeled “crony capitalist” business interests, than hardworking American taxpayers.  It has been made abundantly clear to us: we are no longer needed or even wanted.

We are not like black voters, who will robotically vote for the candidate with the D beside his name for no more reason than that.  We demand representation of those we elect, and we will hold them accountable for their failure to deliver on that compact.

That is the only reason we are here and even talking about this now.  We feel our duly elected “Republican” representatives have not only abandoned us, but abused our trust most egregiously and violated any compact they could ever have hoped to establish with us.  We don’t do the battered wife thing.  You hose us once, it’s on you.  Beyond that, 2nd, 3rd, 4th time, it’s on us.  I think we can all agree we’re somewhere in this range, so it’s not you.  It’s us.

We will not support the next RNC-designated “electable” milquetoast candidate à la Mitt Romney or John McCain.  Knock yourself out, Reince – pick Jeb! or Marco Rubio and get used to the phrase Madame President Hillary Clinton rolling off your tongue.  The only thing the RNC has demonstrated in the last two presidential election cycles is their unmitigated failure to nominate a candidate who can actually win a general election.  These aren’t my facts; they’re yours.

I suppose the question that must be asked here is, would the Republican establishment truly favor a President Donald Trump (R) over a President Hillary Clinton (D)?  I can’t answer this question, but I fear I know the answer to it.

Personally, I’m a big Ted Cruz fan.  Is he the “perfect conservative”?  Probably not, but would Ronald Reagan be a perfect conservative in today’s political climate?  I’m just trying to provide the context to demonstrate that many of us singing Trump’s praises aren’t necessarily his disciples; we just see him as the least of many, many evils, the worst being the consummate grifter Hillary Clinton, who’s never met a despot whose money was too tainted for her to take. 

And quite frankly, that isn’t our fault; it’s yours, political class, and your media mouthpieces, for peddling this unbridled corruption and shameless sleaze as the “new normal,” as if we don’t deserve any better.

Yes, this is our “primal scream.”  After seven years of Obama, and eight years of GWB’s “compassionate conservatism” (progressive statism, though moderately attenuated, for those dumb enough to buy it) before him, we feel we’ve come to the point where there literally is nothing left to lose. 

I say to Rich Lowry, Bill O’Reilly, Jonah Goldberg, George Will, Charles Krauthammer, and the rest of the Republican establishment media that will leave no stone unturned in their single minded effort to “stop Donald Trump”: stop embarrassing yourselves.  We don’t need you to tell us who Trump is. 

It makes you all reek of that worst of insecurities, irrelevance.  And that’s really the rub.  It’s not Trump’s sway over us uninitiated rubes that troubles you; it’s your powerlessness in the face of it that really hits you where you live.

Given the opportunity, we may be trusted to do the right thing.  But it’s your reluctance to trust us with this opportunity, not to mention your vociferous belittling of us, that makes us extremely suspicious of you.  I think we can all agree that we get the government that we deserve, so let’s let the chips fall where they may.  As I said earlier, how much worse can we do?
