Trump will not appoint Romney

On November 27, 2016, Kellyanne Conway questioned Romney’s loyalty to Trump and questioned Romney’s judgment because of his attacks on Trump.  She said Romney lost states in 2012 that Trump won and questioned what Romney has done since 2012 to warrant an important position such as secretary of state.  Ms. Conway stuck the knife in, twisted it, all with a smile on her face.

CNN reported:

Kellyanne Conway says President-elect Donald Trump's base of supporters are concerned about Mitt Romney being considered for secretary of state. She says she will ultimately respect Trump's decision[.]

After Ms. Conway’s takedown of Romney, all deserved, I cannot see Trump appointing Romney as secretary of state.  Romney did not merely criticize Trump’s polices; he viciously attacked Trump personally.  There is not much difference between Romney’s personal attacks and Hillary and Obama’s personal attacks against Trump during the campaign.

Conway is a close adviser to Trump.  She ran a brilliant campaign, and it seems she was sent out to knock down Romney.  I cannot believe she would have said all this without Trump’s approval.  This public humiliation of Romney is payback.

There is nothing special about Romney’s background and qualifications that warrants his appointment instead of Rudy Giuliani as secretary of state.  Romney is smart, but Rudy is smarter, and Rudy fought hard for Trump’s election.

Rudy also has guts.  On October 23, 1995, Rudy ejected Yasser Arafat from the Lincoln Center event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the U.N.  Bill Clinton criticized Rudy, which tells us Rudy did the right thing.

Rudy also refused in 2001 a ten-million-dollar contribution from the Saudis for disaster relief because the Saudi prince blamed U.S. policies for the September 11, 2001 attack.

We all know how Rudy acted following the September 11 attack.  Everyone praised him.

Romney is smart, but he lacks the toughness and courage of Rudy.  Romney did not even stand up to Candy Crowley during the debate and did not respond to the cheap shots from the Democrats such as Harry Reid.

Nobody worked harder for Trump’s election, especially during the weekend after the Billy Bush tape, when it seemed that everyone, including Mike Pence, went silent and dark.

There simply is no good reason to appoint Romney to the most prestigious and important cabinet office.  Rudy is more qualified; more courageous; and most important, loyal.  He deserves to be appointed secretary of state and will be appointed.  The message from Ms. Conway is “give Romney a living, but nothing important.”
