Chavista San Francisco: Chesa Boudin lets the first one out

In San Francisco, it's apparently now OK to take out a broken booze bottle, raise it, and charge a police car, (on film no less); get predictably shot; and for that...face no charges.

That's the story, in far-left District Attorney Chesa Boudin's San Francisco.

Hugo Chávez's former translator won his district attorney's office on a promise to basically make laws illegal same as Hugo Chávez before him, and now he's giving it to the city good and hard.

Here's the San Francisco Examiner report:

Newly elected District Attorney Chesa Boudin has withdrawn the criminal complaint against a man who was shot by police after allegedly attacking two officers in the Mission, the San Francisco Examiner has learned.

Jamaica Hampton, 24, faced various charges including assault after videos appeared to show him striking an officer with a glass vodka bottle near 23rd and Mission streets last December before being chased and shot by police.

On Friday, Boudin withdrew the charges because his office is also investigating the two officers who shot at Hampton.

"It would be problematic to ask the officers to testify while they are under investigation," Boudin told the Examiner on Saturday.

That's a hell of a floor for letting a violent thug off.  Assault on cops bringing no charges?  Apparently, there's no crime too blatant in young Chesa's mind not bad enough to prevent letting them off.

His logic that "it would be problematic" to ask cops to testify while they themselves are under investigation for the shooting pretty well lays it out: it's the cops, not the thugs, who are on trial here.

The message to the cops is that it's their own fault, and if they had not attempted to defend themselves from a raging violent thug, maybe the guy would have been charged, see.  Leftist message to cops: "Don't defend yourselves; just let the thugs kill you."

Not surprisingly, the cops are incensed:

"This unprovoked attack was a violent, criminal act," [San Francisco police chief Bill] Scott said in the email obtained by the Examiner. "I want you to know that we remain committed to working with the DA to see that justice is done in this case for our officers[."]

Good luck with that one, Chief Bill.

Chesa seems to know there's a public relations problem with letting a thug out who's just assaulted the cops, but the logic he gives is an unusually bad red herring:

"Mr. Hampton remains in the hospital in serious condition so there is no public safety concern with allowing the investigation to proceed and for my office to obtain more information on [both] sides of the investigation," Boudin said.

Who the heck cares what condition this loser is in after he got out the broken booze bottle?  The problem is not the individual thug, but the message it sends to all the remaining healthy thugs out there.  Attack a cop, get shot as a result, find yourself not worrying about any charges at all.  The template is set, and thugs are unusually good at reading the tea leaves.

The San Francisco police union outlined the unaddressed problem quite well.

"We urge you to protect police officers and the public from dangerous individuals such as Jamaica Hampton and hold him accountable for his assault," [SF Police Officers Association chief Tony] Montoya said Friday in the letter obtained by the Examiner. "Failure to do so sends a message to every suspect that it is perfectly acceptable to physically assault an officer to get away with your crimes."

And anyone with a brain can see that that's the other shoe to drop as a result of this leftist idiocy.

Rather creepily, Chesa says he's going to reserve the right to file charges in a three-year window, which should make this thug a perfect puppet for saying the kinds of things about criminal justice reform that Chesa likes since he's unlikely to be in any condition to commit more crimes.  We already know he's all in for leftist re-education for thugs.

And the locals are noticing.  You can see from the guy's GoFundMe page that pretty much no one, other than a bleeding-heart NGO that gave $1,400, is actually rallying to this guy's side, not even the rabid leftists who showed up in community meetings described in the Examiner's piece.  His fundraiser has raised just $2,669 on a $500,000 goal over the course of about a month, even as the story has gotten widespread news coverage.

At his level, it's dubious he needs money in any case.  If he's on Medi-Cal for the indigent, he doesn't pay a red cent for his medical care, not even a deductible; he gets a full free ride, courtesy of the taxpayers.  The fundraiser actually looks like gravy, except that no one is donating.

What's startling here about this whole made-for-chaos approach to law enforcement is how closely it resembles the Chavista Venezuela socialist model. Early in Hugo Chavez's presidency, Hugo himself, breaking into television airwaves, announced that it was O.K. to steal if you're poor because capitalists hoard everything, opening the hellgates to Venezuela's massive crime spree.

Similar is coming to San Francisco now that the Chesa die is cast. Young Chesa, as the son of violent terrorists himself, spent his youth learning at Hugo's knee. It's pretty clear he's internalized the Hugo model now, and surprise surprise, San Francisco is now set to head straight down to Venezuela way.
