Joe Biden just gets farther and farther out there.  Now he's saying he and then–U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Andrew Young got arrested in Soweto, South Africa in the 1970s for trying to see Nelson Mandela while the latter was in prison.

Young says nothing of the kind happened.

It's looking (again) as if Joe invented the tale to score political points in his primary battle for the Democrat nomination.  He's told this ludicrous story three times on the campaign trail, but so far, no one has called him on it.

No one really knows why Joe tells such stories, which are easy to check out, but I think I've figured it out.  It's related to Critical Race Theory (CRT).  With CRT, facts don't matter; what matters is what could have happened in a given situation.  This in turn drives the all-important narrative, which in race theory is that blacks always and everywhere are victims of white privilege and this reality overrides petty irritants such as facts and evidence, sometimes thought of as bits and pieces of "the truth."

In Joe Biden's case, Joe could have gotten arrested trying to get in to see Mandela, and this drives the narrative that Joe loves all black people and has gone to jail to prove as much.  In Soweto, no less.  For his courage, Joe should therefore get the black vote in toto.

This kind of gambit worked for Kim Foxx and Jussie Smollett, though they're both black, whereas Biden's a hairy-legged white man.  On the other hand, Biden's also a Democrat and probably figures he should get credit as an honorary black and therefore get the benefit of CRT.

Joe needs all the help he can get, but this one's a bridge too far.  We're more likely to think of him as a full-fledged member of the Deep State, engaged in all manner of shady dealings that would not survive close — or even mid-range — scrutiny.  Or maybe he's just gotten so used to getting away with his wild stories that nobody pays him any attention anymore.

Joe, your time in the arena is up.  Retire quietly, and maybe nobody will finish out the narrative of you in jail for things that actually did happen.
