Vaunted Palestinian 'peacemaker' denies Hamas committed any atrocities

Palestinian leader Hanan Ashrawi is one of those Davos-type characters beloved of the foundation and international awards set. She's a billed as a "scholar & diplomat." She's supposedly a "peacemaker."

So in her commentary to leftist Amy Goodman's "Democracy Now!" program, she made these remarks:

Which is repulsive to watch on the day we learned that Hamas terrorists played with the severed heads of their victims, following credible news that they had sex with corpses, conducted mass rape, beheaded children, and baked a baby in an oven. Hamas itself publicizes its atrocities through videos and photos for recruitment purposes and even its own members admit they are as evil as ISIS. Hamas actually likes it when people learn they are vile beyond all human understanding.

But then there's their second flank, in repellent characters like Ashrawi, who in her respectable suit, makeup and coiffed hair, tells us with a straight face that Hamas wouldn't dream of committing an atrocity. Take it from her...

According to MEMRI's transcript:

Former member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and peace talk delegation Hanan Ashrawi rejected in an October 26, 2023, show on Democracy Now! on YouTube, claims that Hamas committed atrocities against Israel in its October 7 attack. She claimed that the U.S. is not just complicit with Israel, but it is a "partner in crime." Ashrawi stated that U.S. President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken have "sacrificed their credibility in a horrible way by repeating the propaganda of the Israeli spin machine." She continued to state that "even the Europeans swallowed all these lies in the beginning of the incursion in which they accused the Palestinians of horrible things without evidence." Ashrawi said President Biden "just blindly parrots everything he hears from the Israelis," and she added that he and others have had to "walk back [from] the issue of women being raped, or children being beheaded, or all that nonsense, doctored pictures, and so on."

Hanan Ashrawi: "The U.S. is certainly a partner in crime with Israel. The U.S. administration has become spokespeople, including Biden and Blinken, in a very, in a horrible, way, in which they have sacrificed not just their own credibility, but the credibility of the Americans, by repeating the propaganda of the Israeli spin machine, and by labeling and maligning and smearing the Palestinians, and then calling us liars. So what Israel says in many ways affects what the U.S. says, [which] affects public opinion as a whole. Even the Europeans swallowed all those lies at the beginning of the incursion, in which they accused the Palestinians of horrible things, without evidence, without substantiation, without any kind of proof, and then it became actual fact. The U.S. is in many ways is not just complicit but is a part of this war.

What's disgusting here is that she has been showered with honors from the West as a "peacemaker," a "human rights activist," a "democracy promoter" and a "dialogue" advocate. Had enough?

Her Wikipedia bio is loaded with this kind of claptrap.

As a civil society activist, she founded the Independent Commission for Human Rights in 1994 and served as its Commissioner-General until 1995. In 1998, she also founded MIFTAH,[1] the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy and continues to serve as head of its board of directors. In 1999, Ashrawi founded the National Coalition for Accountability and Integrity (AMAN).[2]

Ashrawi is the recipient of numerous awards from all over the world, including the French decoration, “d'Officier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur” in 2006;[3] the 2005 Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation; the 2003 Sydney Peace Prize; the 2002 Olof Palme Prize; the 1999 International Women of Hope “Bread and Roses”; the Defender of Democracy Award – Parliamentarians for Global Action; the 50 Women of the Century; the 1996 Jane Addams International Women’s Leadership Award; the Pearl S. Buck Foundation Women’s Award; the 1994 Pio Manzu Gold Medal Peace Award; and the 1992 Marissa Bellisario International Peace Award.

She is the author of several books, articles, poems and short stories on Palestinian politics, culture and literature. Her book This Side of Peace[4] (Simon & Schuster, 1995) earned worldwide recognition. Moreover, she is the recipient of eleven honorary doctorates from universities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the Arab world.

Oh, and she dated Peter Jennings, too, and got her college degree at the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson.

And don't think the universities don't love her. Here's more from Wikipedia showing how they've showered her with honors:

Ashrawi is the recipient of eleven honorary doctorates from universities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the Arab world. These include: The American University of Beirut (AUB) – Lebanon (June 2008); The American University in Cairo (AUC), Doctor of Humane Letters – Cairo, Egypt (June 2003); Saint Mary’s University, Doctor of Civil Law – Halifax, Canada (October 2000); Smith College, Doctor of Humane Letters – Northampton, Massachusetts (1999); Earlham College, Doctor of Humane Letters – Richmond, Indiana (1999); Vrije Universiteit Brussel – Belgium (1997); Bath University, Doctor of Laws – Bath, England (1993); and The Virginia Theological Seminary[14] – Alexandria, Virginia (1993).

She is a member of various international advisory boards and councils. Her past and present memberships include the following: U.S./Middle East Project;[15] TAKREEM Arab Achievement Awards; Center for Transregional Studies "Advisory Council"[16] – Princeton UniversityCouncil on Foreign Relations – Washington D.C.; Deir Yassin Remembered[17] – New York; Fund for the Future of Our Children[18] – Washington D.C.; Initiative for Peace and Cooperation in the Middle East – Special project of The Search for Common GroundInternational Commission on Intervention and State SovereigntyInternational Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA)- Stockholm, Sweden; Member of the UN Secretary General’s Group for Dialogue Among CivilizationsMercy Corps International – WashingtonPeace Works – U.S.; Task Force on Higher Education (A World Bank, Harvard University and UNESCO initiative); The Carter Center (Human Rights Center); The Dialogue Center – The Netherlands; The World Bank Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA); United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD); Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy[19] (PIPD); The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation[20] – Know Thy Heritage Advisory Board; CAABU – Honorary Patron; Beyond Conflict (formerly The Project on Justice in Times of Transition) – New York, U.S.; and the UN Women Executive Directors Civil Society Advisory Group.[21]

That's quite a downpour. Princeton, the United Nations, the Carter Center, the Council on Foreign Relations, 11 prestigious universities bestowing honorary degrees -- they can't get enough of this morally bankrupt old hag.

Now she's denying to all of them that anything bad happened in Israel at the hands of Hamas.

What a colossal liar.

It's so bad one wonders if they have something on her, or she's just evil.

The one thing we can discern from this horrible story of this laurel-heaped windbag is that the foundations and universities have been corrupt for a long time, enabling anti-Semitism under everyone's noses. We can see where the vapid young college students spewing anti-Semitism and ripping down 'Missing' posters get it from. They've been honoring Ashrawi for years.

It's past time for them to yank those honors.
